Lens Exchange

Using Femtosecond Laser Technology

If you are aged over 40 and…

What is Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)?

Also known as Clear Lens Exchange or lens replacement surgery, it may be a better option than laser surgery for people with presbyopia (reading vision problem) and high hyperopia (Longsightedness) as these are normally non-permanent or sacrifices your distance vision for near.

How is it done?

The procedure for refractive lens exchange is basically identical to cataract surgery, the only difference is that in RLE, the lens being replaced is not cloudy (when you have cataract) but still quite clear.

Imaging 1 An OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) shows the inside of the eye for surgery planning. Incisions 2 Accurate customized self-sealing incisions guided by an OCT - are made with a laser beam. Capsule Opening 3 A custom, perfectly circular and centralized opening is created with a laser. Lens Pre-Fragmentation 4 Softens the lens by breaking it into smaller pieces with an ultra-low energy laser beam. Lens Removal 5 The pre-fragmented lens removed with little or phacoemulsification (ultrasonic energy needed). Insertion of Lens 6 A replacement lens is inserted. Generally, incisions self-seal.

Lasting solution for Reading Vision

With the advancement of technology such as Femtosecond Laser and Premium Trifocal Lenses, and the higher demands on good overall vision, RLE is gaining popularity as a lasting solution for reading vision problems many people face once they reach 40.
