No-Blade Cataract Eye Surgery

VISTA’s No-Blade Cataract Eye Surgery uses a femtosecond laser (also used in No-Blade LASIK) to replace many steps performed manually by a surgeon, resulting in a great level of precision, safety and results for patients.
Benefits

Safe

Reduced risks – including blindness and damage to the cornea (endothelial cell loss).

Simple Surgery

Replaces some manual steps and the use of a surgical blade (knife).

Good Visual Results

Good lens position maximizes visual results, while Phaco energy used results in fast recovery and good results.

Fast Recovery

Less phaco energy used results in fast recovery and good results

Short Surgery Time

Pre-breaking of the cataract using the femtosecond laser reduces surgery time and risk.

How is it done?

Imaging 1 An OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) shows the inside of the eye for surgery planning. Incisions 2 Accurate customized self-sealing incisions guided by an OCT - are made with a laser beam. Capsule Opening 3 A custom, perfectly circular and centralized opening is created with a laser. Cataract Pre-Fragmentation 4 Softens the cataract by breaking it into smaller pieces with an ultra-low energy laser beam. Cataract Removal 5 The pre-fragmented cataract removed with little or phacoemulsification (ultrasonic energy needed). Insertion of Lens 6 A replacement lens is inserted. Generally, incisions self-seal.

It is important to take a step back and understand more about yourself before choosing. Are you active, still driving – especially at night, like reading, or are still using a lot of handheld devices? Are you willing to wear reading glasses permanently?
Standard Cataract Surgery
Often misunderstood as a “laser” procedure, the standard surgery performed by most doctors in Malaysia involves using a metal blade and other tools for the surgery.

The Procedure

1. Incisions

A metal blade is used to make entry incisions on the cornea to allow access within the eye.

2. Capsule Opening

An opening is created by manually tearing the thin capsular bag.

3. Cataract removal

Phacoemulsification (ultrasonic energy needed) breaks the cataract into smaller pieces and removed via sunction.

4. Insertion of Lens

A replacement lens is inserted. Sutures may be needed.

Lens Implantation

Generally, a monofocal lens is implanted in the eye to replace the cataractous lens. This allows for good distance vision, while glasses are needed for intermediate (arm’s length) or near (reading) vision.
